We will keep on trying until we reach the goal Carving out a path towards carbon neutrality

Environmental action × problem solving

We generate renewable energy through a wide variety of methods such as solar, wind, and hydropower, but we are still a long way from achieving carbon neutrality.
We believe that the growth of our sustainability business will enable us to pass on a rich lifestyle to future generations, and we have begun efforts to realize a new goal.

Project Key Data

  • 1.0/3.6

In biomass power generation, plant-derived resources are burned and gasified to generate electricity. The Daiwa House Group is proceeding with a plan to convert the Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant into a biomass-fired power plant to achieve carbon neutrality. Our business, which uses renewable energy to provide illumination for individuals and communities, is a growth-driven business that will realize our corporate purpose – The Year 2055, a Future in which People Can Celebrate the Joys of Life.

  • 9×3×22

The biggest benefit of converting the Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant into a biomass-fired power plant is that it can significantly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. We are considering a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 450,000 tons while maintaining conventional power generation output. We aim to solve the main drawback of renewable energy – that power output is dependent on the weather, which is changeable – thereby achieving a stable power supply.

  • 30

In March 2024, the current mixed combustion power generation (70% coal, 30% biomass) at Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant will cease operation. After that, we will carry out a trial run aimed at converting it into a biomass-fired power plant, and will continue to confirm and verify each of the numerous processing stages. We aim to resume operations in a safe and secure manner in April 2026, 24 months later. You can look forward to seeing the new Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant, which will generate electric power from a new renewable energy source, complementing the already-established solar, wind, and hydroelectric power generation.

Reassurance even if the worst happens
Co-creating regional anti-disaster measures and
commercial facilities

Open innovation × problem solving

No-one can know when or where they may be faced with unforeseeable dangers caused by climate change or other natural disasters.
We have built facilities that can provide all visitors with a reassuringly safe and natural environment.

Project Key Data

  • 1.0/3.6

The Triada Munakata Mall, which opened in late June 2022, is a multi-purpose commercial facility that has enabled a number of existing retail outlets to be rebuilt without closing down temporarily. In the event of a natural disaster, the facility offers local residents eight disaster-amelioration features that will let them do their shopping and use fitness gyms in safety. These include emergency-use "manhole" toilets, emergency parking space where people can stay overnight in their own cars, and warehouses for stockpiling emergency-use foodstuffs and other vital goods.

  • 9×3×22

Emergency power sources at the Triada Munakata include a storage battery system capable of charging 100 smart phones and continuously* powering 40 LED lights for up to 100 hours (about four days). In the event of a natural disaster, we envisage opening up the facility to displaced members of the local population for mobile phone recharging. The management of the facility have signed an agreement with the City of Munakata, under which it is recognized as an official emergency evacuation site. In these ways, we are helping support the daily lives of people in the region.
